spring around the corner

The girls and I read a Frog and Toad story recently where Frog tells Toad a story about how when he was little he was told that spring was right around the corner. Young Frog goes on an adventure looking around many corners for spring.... After a long walk and finding lots of little signs of spring but not actually SPRING, he gets home and his family is working in the garden and flowers are blooming and birds are singing; he found spring!
That's how it was for us yesterday, it was warm and sunny and we gardened, planting our peas, radishes, arugula, and onions. Steve mowed the lawn so it looks extra spiffy and I pruned the shrubs in the front yard. Ahhh. We even had a little sun on our faces at the end of the day.
Today is a mellow, darker day, and it's just perfect that we got a light sprinkle for a couple hours this morning, enough to moisten our seeds and get them growing.  Today is definitely a stay at home day after a few days of busy, sunshiny days... We had crepes with yogurt for breakfast (extra coffee for me), and when Julia took her long morning nap, CB and I made a root vegetable soup (parsnip, carrot, celery, onion, and celeriac) which we blended and even set some aside for Julia's lunch (before I added the creme fraiche and salt).  We have been playing with finger puppets, read a few books, and even did a little baking, making some mini almond honey cakes.
Tonight, I'm supposed to keep it simple for dinner so that Steve can finish laying the tile in the bathroom. How exciting! We'll have omelets (something CB and I are working on perfecting -me at the stove and her at her mini-kitchen, I'll have to post the video of her making an omelet) with braised greens and baked winter squash.
Well, I felt like I needed to do a little update, so you got today's menu. I've been taking lots of pictures but haven't downloaded in awhile because of computer woes.
I'll HAVE to post a crawling video very soon. Julia is going to crawl any minute now. She's got all the right moves.... She's also got two cute bottom teeth, plus two on top that are just breaking through (she's been letting us know). CB is my little gardener, that's what she's been up to -she's a great snail finder but hasn't taken to smashing them for me yet.
Tomorrow and the next day are supposed to be sunny and warm! Spring is right around the corner!

I can't believe Julia is about to crawl, has almost four teeth....wow! I am excited to see pictures of the bathroom remodel. Hope you have more spring-y days ahead~
