After our plans to go to the Salmon River near Somes Bar backfired because of a 30 acre fire by highway 96, we decided to head north on 101 and then east on 99 to the Smith River.
When our friends arrived a half hour before us, they checked out four campgrounds in Six Rivers National Forest and they were all FULL. Luckily, a friend from the co-op recommended this secret spot, a county campground -a true gem, so we got directions at a little camp market and it wasn't too far away. We checked it out and there were still two sites open. Good thing, the sun was starting to go down.
We got a spot right on the water, on a river bed. Made for lumpy camping but the view was awesome.
Here's a little frog I found. The water was very clear and the swimming was great.
I was worried there would be a current and that's we'd have to watch the kids to make sure they don't float away. It was so mild that I started floating up river when the wind blew.
The girls had a lot of fun with Malea's dog, Bella.
All three girls had a blast.
