pear tart

I love cooked pears. Every year when pears are in season I make poached pears a few times because they're such a simple and delicious dessert. Yesterday, when Charlotte and I were playing in her kitchen, we made a pretend pear and apple tart. I decided it was time to be a little more extravagant and make a different kind of pear dessert. With our neighbors bringing over a dinner for us (they made a huge lentil stew they wanted share), I figured it was the perfect night to do some baking, so Charlotte and I made pear tarts together -CB has her own tart pan thanks to Grandma Pat. Charlotte mixed the cold butter into the flour to help make the tart dough, we made a custard of ground almonds and almond extract, and we sliced and fanned out pears for the tart. It was relatively easy and they turned out so pretty that I had to take a picture for our blog.
Charlotte was so proud of her little tart. She gobbled it up.
